Feel free to try out this Automatic Number Plate Recognition demo… upload a photograph with a car’s licence plate in the frame and it’ll try and read it… it takes some time to process so be patient. It isn’t very reliable:

Hi Jon,
Is the underlying script for this written in PHP? I was going to start work on a script for one of my own projects — it requires an uploaded photograph to have the number plate blurred.
The blurring part is easy using GD or imagick, but finding the letters to be blurred is less so — I was looking at PHP solutions for OCR etc… until I saw your implementation!
Any pointers?
Thanks,
Ray
Hi Ray,
It is Java, based on this project:
